There is no need to have Mexican money at the resort. You can tip and buy things with dollars or a credit card. You can exchange dollars at the airport, if going into town.

If you are carrying US Dollars, no need to exchange any money down there. dollars are accepted by everyone, everywhere.

In the resort you will not need pesos, but it is good to have them if you are visiting downtown or surrounding areas. In the airport the exchange rate is 10-15% more expensive but you can change it in some local stores in cancun. I am not sure about the hotel though.

I exchanged at the resort because I wanted to buy something at their shop and didn t want to use my cc, but it s probably easier at the airport
